Since an early age, I gravitated towards the lush mountain forests of Pakistan, where I felt truly alive. As I matured, this deep connection with nature, coupled with the threat of climate change ignited a passion for environmental protection within me.
After graduating in economics, I pursued a postgraduate degree in Environment, Politics, and Development. It was during this academic journey that I discovered the significance of climate finance, revealing its potential not only in mitigating climate change, but also in providing colonial reparations to the Global South. Towards the end of my masters, I focused my dissertation on crafting policy frameworks for developing carbon markets in Pakistan.
After completing my postgraduate degree, I was fortunate enough to land a position as a research associate at Redshaw Advisors, a leading carbon markets consultancy based in London. I delved deep into the intricacies of carbon markets, conducting fundamental analyses of both voluntary and compliance carbon markets, while also gaining expertise in Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
My journey with Redshaw Advisors offered me a profound understanding of carbon offsetting, emphasising the importance of proactive measures over reactive solutions. I aim to motivate my friends and family to reduce their carbon footprint by showing them the wonders of nature and how simple adjustments in our consumer choices can help protect them. I advocate for simple lifestyle changes—such as reducing waste, not opting for receipts, and buying recyclable or biodegradable products—as potent tools in combating climate change. Cumulative individual efforts have a huge compounding effect and endorse social cohesion.
While sharing alarming facts from IPCC reports emphasises the urgency, I firmly believe that the solution to addressing climate change lies in fostering a deep sense of compassion for our planet, rather than being driven solely by the fear of its demise.

Embracing a career in sustainability has left an indelible mark on my life. With a deep-rooted passion for the environment, this professional path resonates profoundly with my personal values. Each day, I am confronted with the stark reality of our impact on the planet, serving as a poignant reminder of the critical role we must play in its preservation. This awareness has made me more mindful of my choices, from transportation to daily habits, fostering a deeper commitment to sustainability.
As a GHG Assessor at NettZero, a carbon management startup, I calculate emissions for various entities. Our focus is on providing comprehensive solutions for tracking and managing carbon emissions, helping organizations understand their footprint and develop reduction strategies. Additionally, we're proud to be a carbon-neutral company and team, ensuring our operations contribute positively to the environment. Furthermore, I am deeply engaged in learning about carbon markets, regularly updating my LinkedIn profile with relevant insights and developments in this field.
This career path has also made me realize the importance of promoting sustainability within my social circle which involves sharing practical tips and resources that resonate with everyone. For instance, discussing the benefits of biking or carpooling highlights how small changes can lead to significant reductions in carbon emissions. Recommending eco-friendly alternatives for everyday products, like reusable water bottles, reinforces the idea that simple choices can make a big difference. Together, through practical actions and shared commitment, we can work towards a more sustainable future.

Having worked as an applied researcher in climate change and nature-based solutions for over a decade, I find immense satisfaction in knowing that even the smallest efforts I make contribute to the broader goal of enhancing climate resilience. Choosing this career path has taught me the profound impact of simple actions in our daily lives such as reducing food waste, minimizing the use of disposables, and making conscious choices about the products we purchase, on environmental well-being. During the early stages of my career, I had the privilege of spending time outdoors for work, surrounded by vibrant forests and natural landscapes. Each encounter with these environments has brought me joy and instilled a deep sense of humility.
I currently work on climate induced loss and damage with a particular focus on Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing Islands (SIDs) and developing countries. My work entails a comprehensive inquiry into the impacts of climate change across ecosystems, societies, and economies. This includes assessing vulnerabilities, quantifying economic as well as non-economic implications, assessing risks, and devising adaptive measures. Furthermore, it involves analysing policy frameworks, conducting case studies, investigating social and behavioural determinants, and innovating technological interventions aimed at mitigating adverse consequences.
Over the past five years, I have served as an independent research consultant, primarily engaging in policy analyses related to climate change. My collaborations have spanned organizations such as the World Resources Institute (WRI), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED).
A career in environmental science and climate change is a way of life! This field offers a rich tapestry of career prospects, while encouraging individuals to embrace sustainability in personal lives. Throughout my journey, I've developed a strong dedication to shrinking my carbon footprint and living sustainably.
I also use homemade bio enzymes for cleaning, involving my enthusiastic five-year-old in the process. Together, we mix fruit and vegetable peels with jaggery and water to create eco-friendly cleaners. While I strive for a low-impact lifestyle, I've come to understand that perfection isn't always achievable. Yet, I recognize that every small effort adds to our collective journey.

I am deeply enamoured by nature's beauty and the diverse life forms it encompasses. Working in the realm of natural resources and environmental management feels like a perfect fit for me, aligning my passion with purpose.
Within this role, I've contributed to various initiatives aimed at mitigating environmental impact. From advocating for water and energy conservation practices to spearheading projects in wastewater treatment and recycling, my endeavours prioritize holistic approaches rooted in green chemistry principles. I have been involved in projects with public and private sector promoting nature-based solutions like wetland restoration, constructing wetlands for pollution treatment, and establishing biogas plants for waste management that aid carbon offsets. As the founder of Verdure Environmental Foundation, I lead efforts toward carbon and water neutrality through innovative projects, leveraging my expertise in promoting circularity concepts, wastewater treatment and renewable energy integration.
Recognizing that change begins at home, we have instilled environmentally conscious practices within my family. We segregate waste, divert handwash water for garden irrigation, and engage in conversations with our children about environmental issues. Their creative solutions, like repurposing plastic waste for pavements and harnessing hydrogen from methane landfills, showcase their budding environmental stewardship.
These actions, while seemingly small, collectively contribute to reducing energy consumption and fostering carbon offsets. I take pride in nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility within my family, community and other stakeholders believing that through education and collective action, we can safeguard our precious natural resources for generations to come.
